The Horrors of the Doomsday

The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The Hour [doomsday] will not come unless a fire originates from Hijaz which illuminates the necks of camels in Basra” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim). Every Muslim believes that there are definite tokens of Qiyamah and that when they appear that will be the end of the world. For instance, the sky will explode, the stars will collide with each other and the earth will disintegrate into atoms. In short, everything will be destroyed. In this respect the Quran says:

(Translation of meaning) [“When the heaven is cleft asunder” (Al-Inshiqaq: 1)]. Likewise:

(Translation of meaning) [“When the heaven is cleft asunder; and the planets disintegrate” (Al-Infitar: 1-2)].

(Translation of meaning) [“And when the sun is overthrown” (Al-Mursalat: 8)]. And:

(Translation of Meaning) So when the stars are put out, (Al-Mursalat 8)

(Translation of meaning) [“When the earth is shaken with a shock. And the mounts are ground to powder. So that they become a scattered dust” (Al-Waqiah: 4-6)]. Similarly,

(Translation of meaning) [“On the day when the earth and the mounts rock, and the mounts become a heap of running sand” (Al-Muzammil: 14)].

In the same way:

(Translation of meaning) [“They will ask thee of the mountains [on that day]. Say: my Lord will break them into scattered dust. And leave it an empty plain. Wherein thou seest neither curve nor ruggedness” (Taha: 105-107)].

In the same vein:

(Translation of meaning) [“When the Seas are poured forth” (Al-Infetar: 3)]. In the same way:

(Translation of meaning) [“When the oceans will be poured forth” (At-Takweer: 6)].

(Translation of meaning) [“On the day when the earth will be changed to other than the earth, and the heavens [will also be changed] and they will come forth unto Allah, the One, Almighty” (Ibrahim: 48)]. Mankind is exhorted to fear God:

(Translation of meaning) [“O mankind! Fear your Lord. Lo!  The earthquake of the Hour [of Doom] is a tremendous thing. On the day when ye behold it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling and every pregnant one will be delivered of her burden, and thou [Muhammad] will see mankind as drunken, yet they will not be drunken, but the doom of Allah will be strong [upon them]” (Al-Hajj: 1-2)].

All these events will happen when Hadrat Israfil (Alaihis Salam) blows his trumpet in the first place as it is mentioned in the holy Quran:

(Translation of meaning) [“And the trumpet is blown, and all who are in the heavens and the earth swoon away, save him whom Allah willeth then it is blown a second time, and behold them standing waiting!” (Az-Zumar: 68)]. Further:

(Translation of meaning) [“And when the trumpet shall sound one blast (13) And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, (14) Then, on that day will the Event befall. (15) And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.(16) (Al-Haqqah: 13-16)].

It is narrated from Hadrat Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)said:

(Translation of meaning) “Allah will catch hold of the earth and envelop the heavens in his right hand and then will say: I am the sovereign, where are the sovereigns of the earth?” (Bukhari). The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has also told us that the dead people will be reborn and resurrected from their graves and this will happen after the second blowing of the trumpet by Hadrat Israfil (Alaihis Salam). Then people will be arrayed to give their accounts. The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that:

(Translation of meaning) When people will become unconscious I will be the first to regain my consciousness and then I will see Hadrat Moses (Alaihis Salam) upholding the Throne of the Almighty. I do not know whether he would have regained consciousness before me or Allah would exempt him from unconsciousness (Bukhari).

Allah has proclaimed:

(Translation of meaning) [“The day Allah will resurrect them all and then inform them of what they had done. Allah had kept an account of all but they forgot it. And Allah is a witness to everything” (Al-Mujadilah: 6)].

On that day human souls will be united with their bodies and they will become as they were in worldly life. Then the disbelievers and the hypocrites will say:

(Translation of meaning) [“They would say: Woe upon us! Who hath resurrected us from our place of sleep? This is that which the Beneficent did promise, and the apostles spoke true” (Yasin: 52).

On the contrary, the believers will say هَذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَصَدَقَ الْمُرْسَلُونَ (52) (ياسين:52)  (Translation of meaning) “This is that which the Beneficent did promise, and the apostles spoke true” (Yasin: 52).

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

(Translation of meaning) Everybody will be resurrected in the same condition in which he died (Muslim). The polytheists denied the life after death. Allah has depicted this belief of theirs in these words:

(Translation of meaning) [“When we die and become soil [will we be reborn?] that is the impossible return” (Qaf: 3)].

In another place it is said:

(Translation of meaning) [“And they said: This is nothing but our worldly life where we die and live and nothing terminates us except time. They know nothing of it. They are but guessing” (Al-Jathiya: 24)].

Polytheists also denied Qiyamah but Allah has refuted their thinking by proclaiming that just as Allah has the power to bring them to life in the first instance so He is capable of reviving them again after their death, Thus Allah pronounced:

(Translation of meaning) [“And Allah hath caused you to grow as a growth from the earth. And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a [new] forth bringing” (Nuh: 17-18)].

This is beyond reason that a man indulges in wrong doing and corruption throughout his life and there be no day of accountability for him. This will be contrary to justice and Allah is the very fountain of justice. It is for this reason that Allah has proclaimed:

(Translation of meaning) [“Those who disbelieve presume that they will never be resurrected. Tell them: Well, by my God you shall be resurrected” (At-Taghabun: 7)]. This is an affirmation of the point that God will resurrect them to take an account of all their major and minor misdeeds.
