THE EFFECTIVE REASONS OF ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE

There are multiple reasons and factors of Islamic architecture. The important ones are as follows:

WEATHER:

There was a great influence of weather on the Islamic architecture. For example, due to moderate weather and less rainfall in Egypt, the roofs of the houses, mosques and palaces were smooth there. There was a courtyard in the houses and a fountain was built in its centre, so that fresh air can pass through the rooms and the environment would remain pleasant. There were beautiful wooden windows through which fresh air entered inside the rooms.

BENEFITING FROM OTHER CULTURES:

Muslims benefited from the people of the countries where they ruled. Whatever Muslims took from the others, they shaped it into Islamic form. Different craftsmen have a great influence on the Islamic architecture.

ECONOMIC IMPACT:

There is a great impact of economy on the growth and development of a skill. Welfare and relaxation have a great effect in developing a skill. As in an Islamic state, every individual of a nation has a share in its wealth, which influence clearly on its architecture too.

COLLECTIVE IMPACT:

Muslims have always taken care of the modesty and respect of women. It is their religious obligation too. It had a great effect on the architecture too. The windows were made very small and very high so that the pedestrians could not see the Maharim (women). Ventilators were invented for the passage of light. The doors of the houses were small so that the person who enters would bow his head. The passage linked to the main door was connected directly to the court so whoever would enter or leave the court could not see the people of the house sitting in the courtyard.

RELIGIOUS IMPACT:

Islamic teachings have great impact on the architecture because the mixing of ‘Non Mehram’ males and females is prohibited or haraam, thus it has an impact on the construction of buildings too. The houses were made double-storied. The upper floor was specified for the ladies whereas the ground floor was specified for the males. There was a guest room. There were separate doors for males and females for entrance.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE:

Muslims proved their architectural skills and showed their craftsmanship and excellent skills. The Europeans took great advantage of it. The masterpieces of Muslim architecture still exist today from which the intellectual and mental abilities and strength of Muslims can easily be guessed. But alas! When the enemies of Islam captured the Islamic countries, they tried to erase the traces of the Islamic architecture and to some extent they got succeeded in it too. They eradicated many Islamic traces from existence and changed the form of many structures.

The Europeans researched a lot on Islamic archaeology and benefited very much from it but it is sad that nowadays Muslims are busy in following the western architecture. Therefore, as the Muslim nation, it is our responsibility that we research on the architecture of our ancestors and this is also our responsibility to find out the reasons and factors by which our ancestors ruled the world for centuries. By following these, we can also rule the world.

It is the responsibility of Muslim scholars to study the historical facts and highlight the role of Islamic culture in the growth and development of different nations so that the world would know how the Islamic culture has served the humanity in so many ways.
