Hadrat Ilyas (Alaihis Salam)
Hadrat Ilyas (Alaihis Salam) was deputed to the people of B’albak as a messenger of Allah. This place is located in modern-day Lebanon. The people of this place had made an idol of a calf and named it as Ba’l. They had adopted it as the god of prosperity and worshiped it. The Prophet Ilyas (Alaihis Salam) gave them the call to revert to Tawheed [the creed of monotheism]. Some people accepted his call and became his followers. Others rejected him and took to falsify and oppose him. Allah (Ta’ala) has mentioned him in Quran in this way:
Translation of Meaning: “Lo! Ilyas was one of those deputed [to warn]. When he said unto his folk: Will you not ward off [the evil]? Will you cry unto Ba’l and forsake the best of creators, Allah your lord and the lord of your forefathers? But they denied him, so they surely will be haled forth [to the doom]; Save earnest-minded bondmen of Allah. And We left for him among the later folk [the salutation]: Peace be unto Ilyas! Lo! Thus We reward the righteous. Lo! He is one of our believing bondmen. And lo! Lot verily was one of those deputed [to warn]” (As-Saffat: 123-133).
