Hadrat Ayub (Alaihis Salam)
As mentioned in the Quran Hadrat Ayub (Alaihis Salam) was a prophet belonging to the progeny of Hadrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam):
Translation of Meaning: “And of his progeny were Daud, Sulaiman, Ayub, Yusuf, Musa and Harun” (Al-An’am: 84).
Hadrat Ayub was renowned for his forbearance and steadfastness. Allah (Ta’ala) had blessed him with riches. He possessed a lot of cattle and numerous slaves. But Allah (Ta’ala) put him on trial when all his wealth was gone. He lost his cattle and all his offspring and slaves were dead. In addition, his body was afflicted with a number of ailments. But he remained steadfast through all his sufferings. In proportion to the growth of his suffering his capacity for forbearance also increased. He passed through travels and tribulations for a long time but he never complained and remained steadfast and grateful to Allah under all circumstances.
Eventually he prayed to Allah (Ta’ala) in these words: [And the same wisdom and knowledge We had given to Ayub]
Translation of Meaning: “Remember when he [Ayub] called his Creator that I have been afflicted with ailment and you are the most merciful of the merciful” (Al-Anbiya: 83). Allah (Ta’ala) granted him his prayer and bade him to strike at the ground with his foot. Lo! As soon as he struck a spring spouted out of the ground. Hadrat Ayub bathed himself in its water and by the command of Allah he was cured of his ailment instantly and not only this but he was also transformed into a handsome and brilliant young man. Quran says:
Translation of Meaning:”Then we accepted his prayer and removed his ailment from him” (Al-Anbiya: 84).
His metamorphosis by the command of Allah astonished his wife. Allah not only restored his health but also gave him more riches, more sons and more slaves than before. The Quran recalls:
Translation of Meaning: “and We gave him his household [that he had lost] and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from our side and a remembrance for the worshippers: (Al-Anbiya: 84).
Thus Hadrat Ayub set a noble example of steadfastness for all who are put on trial through sufferings and loss of money and household.
The Messenger of Allah Hadrat Muhammad (ﷺ) narrated:
Translation of Meaning: “Our messenger Ayub was once bathing naked. Suddenly he was rained upon by a horde of grasshoppers made of gold. Ayub hurriedly captured them and put them in his cloths. Then his Lord God accosted him: O Ayub! Did not I make you free of what you see? He replied yes upon your honour I am in need of your grace and bounty” [Bukhari].
